Sports Volleyball
Player progress, lesson plans & booking for volleyball coaches
Record each player's pass average and serve-zone hits on a record the family can read. Run the lesson from a timed plan on your phone. Families book and pay from one link, so the business side runs underneath the coaching.
Volleyball in Upswing
What it does, in order.
01
A record families can read
Parents pay for lessons and rarely see the part that matters: whether their player is actually passing better than in September. Upswing keeps that answer on the record. You log the numbers the sport already uses, such as the 0 to 3 serve-receive rating, hits into called serve zones, and standing reach or spike touch, and each result lands on a chart against the player’s own baseline and personal best.
Volleyball has no single player rating. Indoor levels come from team placement, and beach has several organizer-specific ratings and points lists. A coach’s own benchmark record is often the clearest picture of whether a player is improving, and in Upswing the family sees it in their portal as soon as you publish it.
02
Tryout prep with a number before and after
Private-lesson demand climbs before club tryouts and before the high school season, and clubs score tryouts on rubrics across passing, serving, setting, and attacking. A tryout-prep block is easier to sell and easier to judge when it starts with a baseline. Make the first session a measured one, rate twenty served balls, and log the average.
Between lessons you can set an assignment, a target the family logs at home, such as a set number of wall passes to a spot. When you re-test before tryouts, the family sees where the player started and where they finished.
03
Plans you run in the gym
Build a session once from timed blocks: a ball warm-up, a benchmark, two skill blocks, and a game-like finish. On the court you run it from your phone, with the current block, the time left on it, and the next block on deck. When the plan reaches the benchmark, you type the number and it goes straight to the record.
Plans are reusable, so a setter-footwork hour or a serve-receive hour stays consistent from one player to the next.
04
Booking that fits a rented court
Gym time is the scarce resource, and many coaches pay a facility fee for every hour they teach. Upswing lets you sell that hour the way it makes sense: a private for one, a semi-private for three or four on the same court, or a position class with a capacity you set.
Availability windows are set per offering, and blackout dates cover tournaments, the high school season, and weekends the gym gives to club teams. Families book into what is actually open, and you can still place anyone into a session yourself.
05
Packs and policies that apply themselves
Five and ten lesson packs are the norm in volleyball training. In Upswing a family buys a pack once, credits come off as sessions are booked, and the balance is always visible to them. Cards stay on file, autopay is one switch for the family, and every payment is receipted. There is no transaction fee on your lesson money.
A no-show on a paid court costs you twice. Set the notice window and the late-cancel and no-show rules once, and Upswing applies them the same way every time, with room for you to override when grace is the right call.
06
Sand sessions and weather
Beach sessions stop for lightning and sometimes for wind. A weather cancellation is one tap: the session is cancelled, every enrolled family is notified, and their credits go back on their packs. They rebook through your link when the forecast clears.
Example benchmarks
Numbers volleyball coaches already use.
These use the scales volleyball coaches already know. Pick three or four per player, run them the same way each time, and the curve does the talking.
| Benchmark | How it is run | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Serve-receive pass average | 20 served balls, each pass rated 0 to 3 (3 gives the setter every option, 0 is an ace or overpass). Log the average. | 1.8 at baseline, 2.2 eight weeks later |
| Serve zone hits | 10 serves to a called zone (zones 1 to 6). Count the serves that land in the zone. | 3 of 10, then 6 of 10 |
| Spike approach touch | Full approach to a reach tool or marked wall, shoes on. Record the highest touch; stop after three straight misses. | 9 ft 2 in, then 9 ft 5 in |
| Standing reach | One hand, standing side-on to a wall, shoes on, heels down. Measured at the fingertip. Re-measure each season. | 7 ft 4 in, then 7 ft 6 in |
| Pro agility shuttle | Short shuttle with two efforts each direction, timed in seconds. Lower is better. | 5.6 s, then 5.3 s |
Example numbers are illustrative. You choose the benchmarks and protocols for your own players.
Questions
Asked, answered.
Is there a volleyball rating Upswing tracks?
Volleyball has no universal player rating the way some sports do. Indoor level comes from team placement and bid divisions, and beach has several organizer-specific ratings. Upswing records the benchmark numbers you choose, measured against the player’s own earlier results.
Does Upswing help with recruiting?
No. Upswing keeps a training record for the player and family. It does not build recruiting profiles, send film to college coaches, or make highlight videos. Families can export the record if they want to share it elsewhere.
Does it work for beach and indoor?
Yes. Indoor and beach volleyball are both in the sport list, and a coach can teach both. Sand sessions get the same one-tap weather cancellation as any outdoor session.
Does it keep team stats or run a club season?
No. Upswing is built for lessons, clinics, and training programs, and it does not keep match stats or build tournament schedules. USA Volleyball memberships and club registration stay with USAV’s own systems. Clubs and academies that run programs with several coaches can use the clubs tier.
Do parents need to download an app?
No. Your booking page works in any browser, and parents book and pay from your link. The family portal and the player record are there whenever they sign in.
What does it cost?
A flat subscription by roster size: $99, $149, or $249 a month, with no transaction fee.
