Player progress, lesson plans & booking for golf instructors
Keep every student's tests, notes, and Handicap Index in one record they can see. Booking, packs, memberships, and the course's facility fee run underneath it.
Golf in Upswing
What it does, in order.
01
Progress you can show
A student who takes six lessons wants to know whether they are better, and a junior’s parents want the same answer without standing at the range. Upswing keeps it on a record: fixed-protocol tests such as putts holed from three feet, a putting ladder, a chipping Par 18, or a wedge ladder scored by proximity, each charted against the student’s baseline and personal best.
The Handicap Index sits on the same record as one number among several. It reflects the best 8 of the last 20 rounds and moves slowly, so the drill numbers show the work that happens between posted scores. You or the family enter the current index from their official record; Upswing does not connect to GHIN.
02
Lesson plans that hold up on the course
Build a lesson from timed blocks: a check-in, a baseline test, the one priority for the day, a blocked drill, a varied block that changes clubs and targets, and a re-test. Run it from your phone with the current block and the time left in view. When the plan reaches the re-test, you log the number and it goes on the record.
Practice research on golf putting supports starting blocked while a change is new and then mixing clubs and targets so it holds up on the course. A timed plan makes that shape easy to repeat for every student.
03
Between lessons
Students drift in the weeks between lessons. After a session you can set an assignment with a target for before the next one, such as ten putts from three feet each practice, and the student or family logs it at home. Your notes stay on the record, so the next lesson starts where the last one ended.
04
Booking for the way golf is taught
Sell 30, 45, or 60 minute lessons, junior clinics with a capacity that matches your ratio, and on-course sessions, each with its own price and credit cost. Blackout dates cover tournaments and the off-season, and families book into your real availability from one link.
Lightning and rain still cancel outdoor lessons. A weather cancellation is one tap that notifies every enrolled family and returns their credits. Late-cancel and no-show rules are set once and shown to the family before they confirm a booking.
05
Packs, memberships, and the course’s cut
Golf academies already sell packs of lessons and monthly memberships. Upswing handles both: credit packs that come off as lessons are booked, and monthly memberships that renew the family’s credits on a schedule. Cards stay on file, every payment is receipted, and there is no transaction fee on your lesson money.
If you teach at a course that takes a share, set that course up as its own engagement with its terms: a revenue split, a facility fee per hour, or a per-head fee. Your earnings report then shows what each course took and what you kept.
06
Juniors and their families
A family account holds every junior in the house, with one card, one calendar, and a sibling discount if you offer one. Parents follow the record, see what was worked on, and book the next session without a text thread.
Example benchmarks
Numbers golf instructors already use.
Simple tests with fixed protocols work best, because the numbers only mean something if the test is run the same way each time. Pick three or four per student.
| Benchmark | How it is run | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Putts holed from 3 feet | 10 putts from 3 feet on a flat part of the green. Count the makes. | 6 of 10, then 9 of 10 |
| Putting ladder | One ball each from 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 feet. Holed is a birdie, past the hole and short of a stick is par, anything else is bogey. Score to par. | +2, then -1 |
| Par 18 chipping | Nine spots around a practice green, chip and putt out from each, par 2 per spot. Total strokes; lower is better. | 25, then 21 |
| Wedge ladder | Three balls each to 30, 50, and 70 yards. 2 points inside 10 feet, 1 point inside 20 feet. Out of 18. | 7 of 18, then 12 of 18 |
| Handicap Index | The official World Handicap System index, entered from the student’s record. Lower is better; 54.0 is the maximum. | 18.4, then 15.1 over a season |
Example numbers are illustrative. You choose the benchmarks and protocols for your own players.
Questions
Asked, answered.
Does Upswing calculate or sync the Handicap Index?
No. The index comes from the student’s official handicap record. You or the family enter the current number, and Upswing keeps it on the record next to the drill results. There is no GHIN connection.
Does it connect to a launch monitor or store swing video?
No. Upswing does not import launch monitor data or store video. If you run a scored test on your own equipment, you can log the result as a benchmark number and chart it over time like any other.
I teach at a course that takes a cut. Does that work?
Yes. Set each course up as its own engagement with its comp terms, whether that is a revenue split, a facility fee per hour, or a per-head fee. Your earnings report shows the course’s share and yours.
Does it replace the course’s tee sheet?
No. Upswing books your lessons and clinics. Tee times, range bays, and course memberships stay in the facility’s own system.
Can I sell monthly memberships?
Yes. A membership renews a set number of credits on a schedule, and the family sees the recurring charge before they agree to it. Packs and single lessons work alongside it.
What does it cost?
A flat subscription by roster size: $99, $149, or $249 a month, with no transaction fee.
