Resources Software · Scheduling
Scheduling and payments software for volleyball coaches.
Most volleyball software is built for the club or the match: membership and rostering, tournament brackets, match film. A coach who sells private lessons, semi-privates, and clinics on rented courts needs something else. Upswing gives you one booking link, offerings with the capacity you set, credit packs and cancellation rules that apply themselves, session plans you run on court, and a player record families can open.
The booking-link model
Your booking page shows your real availability: the windows you set, minus what is already booked. Families book into it themselves, from any browser, and pay in the same step. That replaces the text thread that starts with "does Thursday work?" and ends with a double-booked court.
You can still book families in by hand. A lesson arranged at the end of club practice goes on the calendar the same way, and the credit and payment rules apply as if the family had booked it themselves.
Offerings with capacity: one court, four players
Volleyball lessons come in several shapes, and each one needs its own settings. In Upswing, an offering has a length, a capacity, a price, and a credit cost. A private has a capacity of one. A serve-receive semi-private might hold three. A setter class might hold six. A Saturday clinic might hold twelve.
Capacity is how you make a rented court pay. On a $60 court, one player at $80 leaves you $20; three players at $40 each leave you $60. Setting the capacity on the offering keeps a three-player session from quietly growing to five.
Each offering carries a sport, and indoor volleyball and beach volleyball are both in the catalog. A coach who teaches both can list indoor privates and beach group sessions from the same account, each with its own price and capacity.
Credit packs, autopay, and a flat price
Volleyball coaches commonly sell lessons in five- and ten-packs. In Upswing, families buy credit packs from your link, cards stay on file, autopay handles recurring packs, and every payment gets a receipt. Families see their remaining balance in the family portal without asking you, and you see which lesson used each credit.
Upswing costs a flat $99, $149, or $249 a month by roster size. There is no transaction fee; card processing is the standard rate you would pay anywhere.
Cancellation, no-show, and weather rules
On a rented court, a no-show costs you the lesson and the court. Published volleyball lesson policies commonly use a 24-hour notice window, with some programs charging half the lesson inside it and some the full lesson for no-shows. In Upswing you set the notice window and the late-cancel and no-show rules once. They apply the same way to every family, and you can override them when you want to give grace.
Beach sessions add weather. Many beach programs play through rain and stop for lightning. When a session has to be called, one tap cancels it, notifies every enrolled family, and returns their credits. Families rebook through the same link.
A calendar that fits the volleyball season
Junior club runs roughly mid-November to early July. Girls high school is a fall sport in most states and boys high school a spring sport in many. Tournaments take whole weekends. In Upswing you set weekly availability windows per offering and add blackout dates for tournament weekends, high school quiet periods, and your own time off, so families cannot book what you cannot teach.
Session plans you run on court
Scheduling gets the family to the gym. Upswing also covers the hour itself. A session plan is an ordered set of timed blocks: ball warm-up, a baseline benchmark, skill blocks, a game-like block, and a re-test. You run it live from your phone, with the current block, the time left, and the next block on deck, and one tap to move along. Plans attach to a session or become an offering's default. Upswing includes starter volleyball plans and benchmarks you can copy and edit.
In Upswing
Built for the rented court
Set capacity per offering, sell credit packs, and let your cancellation rules apply themselves. Weather cancels return credits in one tap.
Benchmarks on the player record
When the plan reaches a benchmark, you log each player's result, and it lands on their player record. Volleyball's standard measures work well here: a 0 to 3 pass average over 20 serves, zone serves out of 10, and standing reach, block touch, and spike touch using Volleyball Canada's protocols. Each result charts over time. The record also holds your written reviews, attendance, and a match log.
The family portal
Families get one place for everything: upcoming sessions, credit balance, receipts, signed waivers, messages from you, and their own child's player record. A parent with two kids in lessons sees both from one account. Families never see anyone else's child. Parents do not need to download an app; the portal works in a browser.
Messages live in the same place. When a gym rental falls through or a tournament weekend moves your Thursday lessons, you can message one family or send a broadcast to your families from Upswing, without digging up a group text.
For clubs and academies, Upswing also runs as a shared workspace: several coaches, each with their own schedule and offerings, and one family account across them.
Where club platforms fit
USA Volleyball and its 40 regions run membership through SportsEngine, and a free SportsEngine HQ tier covers registration and rostering. SportsEngine AES runs tournament scheduling, pools, brackets, and results. LeagueApps serves club registration, payment plans, and communications, and charges a percentage of each online payment. TeamSnap handles team schedules, availability, and messaging. All of these serve the club or the team. None is built around a private coach's lesson booking, packs, and training record, which is where Upswing sits. Most coaches who also coach club will keep using the club's platform for club business.
Where video tools fit
Hudl acquired Balltime in February 2025. Balltime uses AI on match video to produce stats like jump height and swing and serve speed, plus highlight reels, and had served more than 12,000 teams and 125,000 athletes at the time of the acquisition. Its published plans include a Player plan at $20 a month and a Recruiting plan billed at $299 a year. If your players want match film or recruiting video, a tool like that is the right one. Upswing does not replace it.
What Upswing does not do
To be plain about scope: Upswing does not do recruiting, match video, or team match statistics, and it does not issue a player rating. Volleyball has no universal individual player rating, and Upswing does not invent one. USA Volleyball membership still runs through SportsEngine. Upswing runs the lesson business: booking, packs, policies, plans, and the training record.
